We continued our study of Noah in our Bible study as we talked about the many animals and had a fun worksheet coloring the animals, cutting the shapes and then gluing the heads to the proper bodies. Alas, the kids had more fun gluing the wrong heads to the various bodies and we all enjoyed laughing at our crazy work. The little guys are loving their table time with the big guys … especially Samantha. Just about the only thing they don’t participate in are the pre-school workbooks. We also worked very hard on recognizing the letters of the alphabet, printing the letter “E” and words that begin with the letter “E”. Our afternoon fun was all about our sense of sight by playing “I spy”. The younger children are learning where their eyes, ears, nose and mouth are. Samantha has it down. She’s the leader of my younger “pac”.
On Tuesday I participated in a morning training session. (Just for your information, I have to complete 30 hours of continuing education each year to maintain my Director’s Certification. I’m usually able to get this accomplished on weekends and evenings but needed to take this class during business hours.) When I returned from training, we had a lot of fun discovering our sense of smell with many smelling containers. Some were very nice to smell like perfume, cinnamon, vanilla, coffee, maple syrup. Others were not so wonderful like Worsterchire, vinegar, garlic, and dill. We were able to make a graph by a show of hands indicating how many liked the various smells. Graphing is one of the math studies we study this year so you will frequently hear of us graphing our likes and dislikes of various things. This week we are looking at groups of numbers, building objects out of shapes and seeing shapes around the room.
Wednesday was so much fun. We collected fallen leaves in the back yard, did a painting/leaf collage and talked about the seasons with our current season of fall. We talked about our sense of taste as we tasted ketchup, dill pickle juice, ketchup and maple syrup all on bites of bread. Huge success with the kiddos … they kept wanting more and more. Still practicing with the younger guys where their mouth, nose, ears and eyes are and what each is for. On Thursday we investigated the sense of touch with our animal and sea creature touch bags. Touching without seeing is a little difficult even for Ms. Karen but lots of fun for everyone. On Friday we practiced our opposite words, used our sense of hearing by playing musical chairs and worked on worksheets and work books. Art folders went home on Friday with library books for Preston, Cooper & Bryce … all need to be returned on Monday.
