We had a fabulous day on Monday looking at “Z”, our final letter of the alphabet. In addition to our regular alphabet activities, I have added a new toy which Cooper received at his birthday party which hangs on the magnet easel board for the letters of the alphabet. It sings the sounds of the letters and also the ABC song. The kids are already enjoying it and getting good letter recognition practice. I read a cute stories entitled “Zippity Zoo” and “The Yak That Said Yuck”. Jett is going out of town beginning Wednesday so we tried to get as many of our crafts done on Monday and Tuesday. We planted individual jungles, made binoculars, made safari hats, made a jointed giraffe,Wednesday was a really full day. We switched up our day by going outside in the morning while it was still breezy. I’m so glad because the afternoon turned out to be very hot and muggy … good call. Outside we played at the sand table and had great fun. I guess I’ll have to keep moving the sand table to allow for all the sand that gets spilled out. In the process, we’ll have a more even distribution around the yard. Hahaha Wednesday’s Bible story was about Noah’s Ark taken from Genesis 6-9. What a great story to spring from with study ideas during this animal month. A long, long time ago there lived a man named Noah who loved God very much. The people around him did bad things and forgot about God. God was sad that everyone but Noah forgot about him. God told Noah about His plan to start over. “Make an ark, take your family and two of every animal into the ark.” After everyone was inside, the rain began to fall, and fall, and fall for forty days. The ark rocked on the rising water. Finally the rain stopped and water covered everything. Everything in the ark was safe. The ark finally came to rest on the top of a mountain. God told Noah to leave the ark. Noah and his family thanked and praised God. God put a beautiful rainbow in the sky for a sign of His promise to never flood the whole earth again. We played with the ark full of pairs of animals for some interactive story time. Lots of fun. In the afternoon we had our black and white show and tell color day. Several forgot to bring something for show and tell so don’t be concerned if you were one of them. We found something here for them to show and all had a great time. I am going to take a poll about how we should conduct color day next year so be thinking about your preference.
On Thursday we watched the Early Reading CD. I read the story “Charlotte’s Web” to the children. In the afternoon we made a tub of mud and played with pigs in the mud. Lots of very messy fun. After our clean up we played with the animals on the color wheel. Good inside play for such a rainy day. We also worked on our Noah’s Ark crafts.Friday we played with the color paddles and flashlights in the science lab. Lots of fun changing the colors and making colors by mixing the paddles. We’ve been enjoying the laminated cage placemats every day with our animal cookies each day with our snacks. Such fun. But on Friday we changed things up with jungle spears and cheese cubes. We have a lot of fun discovering the various animal worlds. We also made a paper plate lion head and really enjoyed water color painting.
