What a fun week we have had with animals, animals everywhere. Monday’s literacy was all about the letter “Y” as we looked at yaks, yellow, yarn, yogurt, & yo-yos. The yogurt was very tasty. I read two cute stories entitled “The Yak Who Yelled Yuck” and “Yippy Yak”. We had fun with the miniature “Y” things as we passed them around the table for some hands on learning. On Tuesday’s math day we looked at the number “9” (calendar erroneously says review all). We played with the small counting objects and practiced picking them up and transferring them to the basket with the pinchers. This skill is really developing nicely. We also had fun during afternoon snack with the new placemats I laminated that look like a big animal cage and animal cookies. “If you put two animal cookies in the cage and Ms Karen tells you to put one more animal in the cage, how many animals are in the cage?” Lots of counting tine and a great introduction to the addition concept.
On Wednesday we talked about Jonah with me reading the children’s interpretation of Jonah 1:1 – 3:10 from The Beginner’s Bible by Zonder Kidz. Jonah was a prophet of God. One day, God told Jonah, “Go to the big city of Nineveh. Tell them to stop doing bad things.” But Jonah didn’t want to and ran away on a big boat. God sent a big storm to stop Jonah. The sailors on the boat were afraid because Jonah told them that God was mad at him. The sailors threw Jonah into the water and the storm went away just as a big fish swam up and swallowed Jonah. GULP! For three days and nights, Jonah was inside the fish and prayed for God to forgive him. God told the fish to spit Jonah out onto dry land told Jonah to go to Nineveh. This time, Jonah obeyed God. The people in Nineveh were sorry for doing bad things so God forgave them.
On Wednesday we had our monthly emergency drill. We had fun talking about animals that live on the farm vs. animals that live in the jungle. We colored elephants and put spots on leopards. We also drew bars on the animal cages. We practice drawing lines a lot. On Thursday we had a lot of fun playing musical chairs. We haven’t played this for a while and these little guys really had a lot of fun. Afterwards we watched our Early Reading CD.
On Friday we had a lot of fun acting out Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed. We made the finishing touches of our gift for the moms for Mother’s Day that we’ve been working on all week. This project ended up being quite labor intensive so the children had quite a bit of help. But please know that they worked very hard and are quite proud. “Te Amo, Mommy”
I still need art folders from two. Don’t forget show and tell next week on Wednesday …….. something black and white. If you want to put black and white clothes on your child, that will be fun, also. And please remember I need toilet tissue rings this week.
Have a blessed weekend.
