This was a very busy week with lots of projects to do. On Monday we examined the letter “Q” and talked about several words that start with that letter … one was quilt. A fun craft was the patchwork quilt we all made on paper. How pretty they turned out. We also planted lima beans in our own personal greenhouses. Don’t forget to have your child show you his personal greenhouse if you have not already seen it. They are each attached to one of the back daycare windows with suction cups. Should be lots of fun to watch our plants grow. Hopefully we can transplant them later in the year. On Tuesday we looked at the “heart” shape and had fun doing a tissue paper collage. We also made our Valentine mailboxes to receive Valentine cards from our friends on Friday.

Wednesday’s color day was not very pink but we had a wonderful day. Only a few brought something for show and tell so we didn’t make a big deal about it this month. I should have posted a reminder on the door so I’m sorry for that. Color day is always the second Wednesday of each month in case I forget. BTW – next month’s color is green.

I introduced a new focus called a “Caring Tree” on Wednesday. We talk a lot about caring for each other, being polite, sharing our toys, etc. And now we have a positive reinforcement for our acts of care and love for our friends. Each time an act of caring is displayed by one of the children, that child receives a sticky heart with his name on it to place on our Caring Tree. It also gives us an opportunity to talk about the caring act and how fabulous it is to be nice to our friends. I’m very excited about this. I’ll keep you posted.

As we continue in our Adventures of Faith, we talked about trusting God … “Trust God. He has the bigger picture” from Romans 8:28. This scripture played well with our Bible story.

Jesus always talked to the crowds of people that followed Him. Sometimes he wanted to be alone so He could pray to God the Father. Jesus told His disciples to sail to the other side of the sea while Jesus stayed behind to pray. Jesus prayed during the day and at night. If Jesus thought it was important to pray, we should know that it is also important for us to pray. We can tell God we are sorry for the bad things we do. We can also tell God how much we love Him and thank Him for the things we have. We can’t see Him but we can talk to God any time. While Jesus prayed a big storm came up and tossed the disciples to and fro in their boat. They were afraid. They rowed as hard as they could to get back to the safety of the shore. Even though Jesus was far away praying, He knew what was happening. The storm was too strong for the disciples and Jesus knew He must go to them. But how could Jesus get to them in the storm? Jesus stepped right onto the water and began to walk on the top of the water to the disciples boat. Jesus told His disciples to not be afraid. Peter heard Jesus and said to Him, “Lord, if it really is You, tell me to come to You on the water.” So Jesus said, “come”. Peter stepped out of the boat onto the water trusting that Jesus would take care of him. The water held him up! Peter took a step toward Jesus, and another, and another. Peter was looking at Jesus while he walked. But Peter began to look around at the waves and the storm. When Peter stopped looking at Jesus, he stopped trusting Jesus to help him and Peter began to sink into the water. “Lord, save me!” And what do you think Jesus did? Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught Peter, helping him up. Sometimes we are like Peter. We believe God will take care of us and then we start looking around and get scared. God takes care of us even when the room is dark. Jesus knows where we are every minute of the day or night. Remember, Jesus said, “Fear not for I am with you.”
I made our Bible story interactive by using a sensory water tub and a boat with some of our toy “people”. What fun we had telling Peter’s story again, making the storm and calling to Jesus for help. We know Jesus is always there to help us. And I think the children truly gleaned some positive thoughts from this activity.

On Thursday we baked Valentine cookies for Friday. We always have fun in Ms. Karen’s kitchen. And baking cookies is a favorite. We listened to our children’s CDs and enjoyed dancing. We also played with the colored wooden animals on the color wheel. Friday was our Valentine party and we had lots of fun sorting through the Valentine cards and treats from our friends. Our mailboxes were brimming over with treats.

Some of you have asked about the grand opening party for the new daycare room. I’m still making improvements to doors, yard, large toys, etc. so I’m not quite ready. I’m sure everything will be finished soon but I have decided to combine it with the traditional “End of School Year” party.

Have a blessed weekend. Hugs to all.
