Monday was Presidents Day. We still say the pledge of allegiance every day in the morning just before our morning table time. This week we talked about the American flag and today we made a First American Flag. We also made a Presidential Placemat and talked about our first presidents.

Math day on Tuesday was lots of fun. We counted to “6” by answering several “how many” questions, dropping and counting 6 objects into the bucket and then dumping them out for the next. File Folder Games was another fun time with the many ways to count games. We also played with the kites and their numbered tails. Counting is so much fun and these guys are doing so well. For the older toddlers, we also focus on correlating the number of objects to the actual number and number recognition.

We had our monthly emergency drill on Wednesday. Afterwards we enjoyed some fun scissor practice on newspaper. This is a coordination exercise and a bit difficult for some but lots of fun.

Our Bible story this week comes from Matt 17:24-27 entitled Tax From A Fish’s Mouth. Jesus and His disciples went to the city of Capernaum, which was beside the Sea of Galilee. Some men who collected taxes came to one of Jesus’ disciples, Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay tax?” Peter went to the house where Jesus was. Before Peter could say a word Jesus already knew about the tax collector. Since Jesus is God, He knows everything that goes on. “We will pay our taxes, “ Jesus told Peter. “Go to the Sea of Galilee and throw out your fishing line. Take the very first fish you catch and open its mouth. You will find a coin in the fish’s mouth. It will be enough to pay our taxes.” That is a strange place to look for money – in a fish’s mouth! Do you suppose Peter obeyed Jesus? Do you think he found a fish with a coin in its mouth just as Jesus had said? Yes, he did. Jesus wanted to teach us an important lesson. We should obey those who are in charge of us. We should obey our parents by doing what they tell us to do. We pick up toys and come when we are called. We should obey our teacher by doing what she says. We play nicely together and are quiet when she wants us to be quiet. We should also obey the rulers of our country. Jesus used the fish and the coin to teach us this very important lesson that God wants us to obey all who are over us.

We had a lot of interactive fun with this story with our fishing poles and magnetic fish in the barrel of water. Each fish had a coin attached to it for a money surprise when each child caught a fish. What fun we had.

On Thursday we made spin art pictures using red, white and blue colors. We also practiced sorting our colors. Friday was all about feeding and observing the birds and squirrels as our science & sensory. We work on our Spanish and Sign Language every week.

Caring Tree is a solid success. Proof that positive reinforcement certainly does work. I have been catching the children performing genuine acts of kindness and making a big deal by rewarding with the heart post-it note. The others watch and then try to do the same. They are all understanding the concept and I’m seeing lots more hugs, etc. I’m very pleased.

Have a blessed weekend. Hugs to all.
