Grandma's House Daycare

A fun week as we continued our study of the ocean and sea creatures. Our literacy day on Monday was filled with talk of fish as we looked at many beautiful picture fishy flash cards and discussed how fish breathe under water. We worked at the activity table learning about Columbus Day with coloring sheets to support. We also started a very involved fish craft that will take the better part of the week to finish … but it’s cute. Tuesday’s math study was all about the number “2” as we counted and counted and counted fish in the fish bowl and took a number sheet home with two big ice cream cones. We also played with the magnetic fish poles as we concentrated on everyone counting 2 fish each.

Wednesday’s Bible story was about Hannah and how she prayed for a baby son. (BTW – All Bible stories are accompanied by 2-3 very large color glossies which depict the story in picture form.) Babies are so much fun. They smile and giggle when you tickle their feet and look so happy waving their arms in the air. Your mommy and daddy were so happy when they brought you home as their new little baby. They probably said you were a gift from God. In our Bible story today, we learn about a lady named Hannah who wanted to have a baby of her own more than almost anything else. Hannah loved God and loved her husband, but she had no children to love. This made her very sad, and she cried. Hannah knew that God could help her, even when no one else could, so she went to the church to pray. She prayed to God, “If You will give me a baby boy, Lord, I will give him back to You. He will serve You all the days of his life.” God heard Hannah’s prayer, and He answered by giving her what she had asked for. Before another year had gone by, Hannah and her husband had a baby boy. They named him Samuel. Hannah did not forget her promise to God. God had given her a son, and she had promised to give the son back to God. Hannah raised Samuel and taught him about God. When Samuel was a boy, Hannah took him to the church to serve God.” After Hannah went home, Samuel stayed there at the church to work for God. Hannah never forgot her son Samuel. Every year, she made Samuel a new coat. She took the coat with her when she visited Samuel each year. God blessed Hannah and gave her five more children. God always hears our prayers. He always answers our prayers. Sometimes God answers, “yes,” right away and gives us what we want. Sometimes God answers “no” because He knows we don’t need what we have prayed for. Sometimes God says, “Wait a while,” because He knows exactly when to give us what we need. He never answers too late. He always answers on time. God always knows what is best for us.

On our Thursday day of art we completed our fold out fish which demonstrates many different skill sets. We played with sand and water on Friday and discovered things that float and things that sink in the water and looked for shells hiding in the sand and made a collage of leaves. Lots and lots of fun.


Room addition construction was a bit at a standstill this week. Electrical & windows are in. Air conditioning vents and ducts are in. Roof is ready for shingles on Monday. But still seems slow. I hate that because the family room looks dark with the black sheeting covering the back wall. I’ll be thrilled to finally move into our new room with the four beautiful large windows which make for a brightly lit room. Once again, thank you for being tolerant of the construction environment.
