We will begin our 2008-2009 program of development here at Grandma’s House Daycare on September 2nd. If your child will be twelve months old by the end of 2008 and you have not paid your $50.00 supply fee, this is a friendly reminder to do so this week.
I’m very excited to get started with our developmental program this year. We have two great groups of children, one of nine toddler boys ranging from 14-28 months and one of three infant girls ranging from 3-10 months. Following last year’s model, play and table activities are scheduled for weekly exposure to Literacy, Math, Bible, Coordination, Art/Music, Dramatic Play, Science and Sensory. Both toddlers and infants will follow the same theme but on an age appropriate level. Developmental activities for the toddlers will start promptly and run from 9:00 to 10:30 AM and resume again at 3:00 and continue till 4:30 PM. It would greatly help to have children here each morning before 9:00 AM. Breakfast is available until 8:30. The infant’s schedule is individualized depending on the level of development.
The emphasis of a different color, shape, number, bible stories and 2-3 letters each month is suitable for repeating from year to year and serves as the spring board for our monthly focus and activities. Additions to this year’s program include sign language, Spanish, and many new books and learning toys … all through the enjoyment of stress free, developmental play. And last but not least, your children, ages two and older, will be introduced to computer workstation play and have access to age appropriate developmental software beginning in January in our brand new 25’x25’ daycare room addition which should be completed in November.
Color day is a little different this year. One Wednesday of every month will be designated as color day. Children can wear the color of the month on that day but only if they have it. Please, please, please do not buy something just for our color day. In addition, I am introducing “Show & Tell” on color day. Toddler children may bring something that is the month’s color on color day and will have the opportunity to stand before the group and show what he has brought.
Monthly focuses for each month are: September-All About Me/Celebrating Our Similarities & Differences, October-Oceans & Ocean Life/Creatures That Live In The Sea, November-Let Us Be Thankful, December-Christmas/Jesus Is The Reason For The Season, January-Nursery Rhymes/A World Of Make Believe, February-Friendship/Let Us Love One Another, March-Insects & Spiders/Not So Creepy Crawlers, April-Easter/Christ The Lord Is Risen Today, May-Animals/A Walk On The Wild Side.
Accompanying this letter (and in the right column of the web site)is the calendar for September and reference guide for the sign language words we will learn. Calendars, which will be available at the beginning of each month, are to keep the parent informed of our plans, provide ideas for evening conversation with your child, and keep me organized. The below age-appropriate lists show how the same motor skills become finer as each child matures and will give you an idea of the types of skills you can expect your child to master in the upcoming months.

I strive to honor God in everything I do. I enjoy motorcycles, motorboats and scuba diving. I love my husband and my family and I adore my grandchildren. I have always had a heart for children. If children are around, I'm frequently the one on the floor playing with them. After 20+ years in HR, Accounting & Office Management, I chose a self employed venue in child care with aspirations of making a difference in the lives of children. I am a certified Professional Child Care Administrator licensed with the TDPRS to care for twelve children, ages infant thru pre-kindergarten. I employ one full-time assistant. I love my job but it's hard to let go when it's time for the children to move on. Even though they are not my grandchildren, I bond with them as if they were. Alas, tis the nature of the business. But if I can instill in them an excitement for learning, sow a few Godly seeds in their lives, if they can see Jesus thru me, it's certainly worth it.

Megan has worked with children for many years both in the day school and Bible school environment. After trying her hand as a Paralegal, she decided to change her career path, go back to school and is now enrolled in college courses both on-line and at night at a local community college. Megan is focusing on a degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development. Working here at GHD will provide her opportunities of practical application and she likes the aspect that it will allow her time to work on her studies while the children are napping. She anticipates staying with us for three years while she continues her studies and then pursues a career in the field of Early Childhood Education. I’m thrilled with the direction God has led me in finding Megan.
