Grandma's House Daycare

It was great getting back into the groove of school activities. The toddlers were thrilled with so many fun table activities and learning experiences this week. I hope everyone picked up the September calendar in their child’s cubby or have looked at the calendar on the website to keep up with what is planned. This is a great tool to stimulate evening conversation with your child. The focus this year for our school bunch will be identification of letters and numbers, fine motor skills and early stages of printing. Parents can support our efforts on a regular basis by pointing out letters and numbers you see as you are out and about and helping your child with letter and number recognition. It’s going to be a fun year.

September’s theme is “I Can Be Me” and we will have fun examining all aspects of ourselves. Monday will always be Bible day. Bible study to start out each week putting God in His rightful place of first. Even our Bible study will tie in as we started out talking about the world we live in and how “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”. Children had fun telling what was their favorite of God’s creations. Ms Karen’s favorite is flowers. Tuesday will be our Science day. With everyone wearing safety goggles, our first science day was spent discussing safety in science and the concept of science. Discussing what we think is about to happen and why. A ball rolls down hill. If you throw a toy in the air, it comes back down. Colors change when you mix them. ……. But “WHY”? If you thought your child asked “why” a lot before … just wait. LOL! Wednesday is dedicated to Literacy. This week our literacy study was the letter “A”. Flash cards, memory games, printing practice, coloring sheets, reading, were among the fun ways we studied the letter “A”. Thursday is going to be our Math day. This week’s math focus was the circle. One of our art projects involved a circle, scissor practice with a circle, dot to dots to form circles, dramatic play drawing circles in the air. We wrapped up the week on Friday with a day of Art. This week’s art day was spent on our monthly art project and self puppets. We have certainly had a full week of learning fun.

Infants are developing nicely. Samantha and Joshua are beginning to play well together. Samantha is sitting alone and Joshua is almost there. Zachary “oooches” in several directions and is always the happiest baby I’ve ever seen. Walker, who is technically an infant, plays alongside the toddlers just like he is a big guy. He is not quite ready for table activities but he is right there with us. He pulls to a standing position at the table, toys and anything stable. He will be walking very soon. We follow a similar program with the infants as we do the toddlers with colors, numbers, singing, reading … all to simply expose the infants to various stimulus. Story time is especially fun when I use the assistance of puppets to tell the story.

I’m thankful to have the faithful assistance of Ms Sandra who is beginning her fourth year with me as of August 1st. I would not want to try to provide care for these children unless I could also provide the consistency of the same care giver in their young lives. I am blessed to have a wonderful Christian woman whose employment heart’s desire is to work here with me and these sweet children. She is my trusted employee and my very good friend.

On Friday we had to say goodbye to Xander. His Mommy will have her baby on September 18th (or sooner) and will be able to work from home. Xander might be able to visit from time to time. But for now we had to tearfully say “goodbye” and God bless.
