December has arrived … my favorite month of the year. Every activity is an opportunity to talk about the birth of our Lord Jesus. Sloane is already a semi-permanent part of the toddler group and we bring Ava and Emma into the group for a lot of our Christmas discussions. This is going to be a fun month with lots of exciting activities, lots of fun crafts to bring home and lots of talk about Jesus. Hopefully I will be able to put up my tree soon. And this month we will finally get to occupy our new room. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday was a fun day of vocabulary building with flash cards, talking about Christmas and then setting up our Nativity. Each element of the Nativity in its own box with the last box wrapped as a special gift with the baby Jesus inside. Jesus is God’s gift to us, His children … the very best gift of all. We talked about various kinds of behaviors like biting, sharing, hugging, hitting, crying, etc. … and how it makes us feel when these occur. Tuesday was our Math day as we concentrated on the number “4” with a Christmas tree craft and rolling the dice to count the dots and then put the same amount of veggies in the basket.

Sloane is walking more and more … 6 & 7 steps at a time with crawling still her preferred mode of travel. I have to sing praises to Landon who has already taken the lead with our upcoming potty training endeavor. I told him he would be my leader! We have had several out and back with signs of a tummy bug that made its way around. All the toddlers are certainly becoming quite verbal which thrills me. They are all just like little rockets taking off. We didn’t get to go outside this week till Wednesday and golly was everyone excited.

On Wednesday we unwrapped Jesus, the special gift in our nativity. For many years, God had promised that He would send His Son to be our Savior. His Son would take away people’s sins. The people had waited a long time. Then one day, God chose a young woman named Mary to be the mother of His Son, Jesus. Mary was by herself when the angel Gabriel, God’s messenger, came to talk to her. Gabriel said, “Greetings! God has picked you for a very special job.” How do you think Mary felt when this angel appeared to her? She must have been scared because the angel Gabriel said to her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary. God is pleased with you. You are going to have a Son. You will name Him Jesus. He is the Son of God. One day He will rule over all of Israel, and His kingdom will never end.” Mary told the angel she would do whatever God wanted her to do. Mary had a special friend named Joseph. They were going to get married. One night an angel came to Joseph in a dream and said “Go ahead and make Mary your wife. The baby she will have is God’s Son. You are to name Him Jesus, and one day He will save people from their sins.” When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel said and took Mary to be is wife.

On Thursday and Friday we talked about Mary telling her cousin Martha of her good news. When she did, Martha’s baby she was carrying jumped for joy. That baby was to be John the Baptist who was also to be the first man to proclaim to all the people that Jesus was coming.

The weather was too cold to go outside on Thursday and Friday so we had fun running laps in the new room before completion. Word is, we move in next weekend. We have worked on many holiday crafts this week. Some listed on the calendar we simply did not have time for. Other’s were my last minute brain storms. LOL. In any event, we have celebrated the upcoming birth of our Lord Jesus all week. Joy to the world, the Lord has surely come.

BTW – don’t forget next week on Wednesday is our December color day. Everyone should bring a RED item to show and wear something red. Thank you.
